When Richard and I moved our family to Chattanooga in 1985 to lead and serve this fellowship, we came to a Church that was in a much different situation than it is today. The Church had been struggling financially, and the membership was much smaller. My husband came to Brainerd Hills with a conviction that this was where God wanted him, and that God wanted to bless this congregation. The people of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church caught his vision!

“Beyond Measure”, what does that title mean to you? In recent weeks we have heard it discussed in a business meeting and it has also been mentioned from our pulpit. I really did not think too much about the name. My thoughts were along the lines of we need a new building, because of our continued growth. I hought, “Let’s get started with this building process!” But after some time, prayer and reflection I took the emphasis off of what I thought and began to think about “Beyond Measure” in terms of what God has given to us. It changed my whole attitude and thinking.

A History of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church |

Brainerd Hills Baptist Church is a unique organization; dedicated to bring glory to God through the ministries of worship, evangelism, education, fellowship and outreach.
Situated today on a rolling hillside, which was once part of the Vance Farm, the Church had its beginnings as a Mission of Highland Park Baptist Church in 1946. It was then located at the corner of Central Drive and East Brainerd Road. The Mission continued until 1951, when it was constituted a Southern Baptist congregation.

The “Beyond Measure” Campaign reminds us of the importance of faith. The Bible says that “without faith it is impossible to please God.” This is true in giving, as well as in anything else in life. When asked to make a faith commitment, our natural mind asks: “What if I promise too much?” “What if I lose my job?” Our spiritual mind must respond: “I will trust God.” This aspect of faith is clearly seen in Philippians 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

From its beginning, Brainerd Hills Baptist Church has been a place for worship, as well as a place to send our members out to do ministry and evangelism to those outside the family of God! The Lord’s Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 calls for the church to do its part in training, equipping and in sending believers for this task.
